REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) through Directorate General of Waste, Hazardous, Toxic and Waste Management (PSLB3) on Wednesday (28/4) released a short movie to educate people on waste management. The movie is titled “Aunt Jo Learns How to Manage Waste” (Bude Jo Belajar Kelola Sampah). It is a situational comedy genre that portrays everyday life, presenting an example of simple waste management.
The launching, held in both online and offline, was attended by Director General of PSLB3 of KLHK, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, Director Waste Management of KLHK Novrizal Tahar, and production team of “Bude Jo” movie: Wira Hardiprakoso (Producer), Hilman Mutasi (Director), Siti Fauziah "Ozzie" (the Cast of Bude Jo), and Wilda Yanti (Waste management and recycle entrepreneur).
The short movie tells a story about Bude Jo who gets a new experience on waste management while visiting her relative in Jakarta. Bude Jo learns how to sort out waste, how to dispose used mask, and recycle waste into handcraft. She also gets to know about waste bank, 3R (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse) culture, and circular economy aspect from an entrepreneur named Wilda Yanti, who is the owner of waste management company.
Director General of PSLB3, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, said that the movie was based on current waste problem in Indonesia. The amount of waste is mounting to 67.8 million tons in 2020. The number keep increasing along with population and welfare growth.
Based on survey “Environmental Indifferent Behavior” issued by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in 2018, about 72 percent of Indonesian citizen doesn’t care about waste. Vivien emphasizes that of the situation is not anticipated, KLHK predicts the amount of waste will keep mounting. Thus, the burden of management will be heavier. Observing the condition, Directorate General of PSLB3 of KLHK sees the importance of awareness campaign that can reach all citizen. The campaign educates people on decreasing and managing waste in their environment.
“We keep doing the waste management campaign for all citizen, including by making the movie. Some practical life skills on waste management presented by Bude Jo can raise awareness for people. I hope the movie will inspire many people to keep decreasing and managing waste starting from their home,” Vivien said.
