REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A suicide bomb exploded at the Cathedral Church in Makassar on Sunday (March, 28) morning. Police reported that one person died, the suicide bomber.

Intelligence and terrorism observer Al Chaidar said the suicide bombing that took place at the Cathedral Church on Jl Kahaolalido Makassar was allegedly carried out by members of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) Makassar.

They carried out the suicide bombing as an act of revenge because their members were arrested and shot by the police in February.

"They were angry and desperate because as many as 20 members were arrested and two of them were shot dead by the 88 Densus Police. So this is an act of revenge,'' he told Republika, Sunday (28/3).

According to him, knowing that they would be arrested and that they were open to being shot dead, they apparently decided to attack with suicide bomb.

"The existence of this suicide will clearly be very dangerous. The government seems not firm in dealing with terrorists because everything is left to the police. This action will have an impact on other terror movements such as the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) in Poso, OPM in Papua, as well as terror cells affiliated with Jamaah Islamiyah,'' he said.

According to Al Chaidar, in Sulawesi there are still Jamaah Islamiyah terror cells, the organization is Jamaah Ansharut Khilafah (JAK). "This group is affiliated with ISIS," said Al Chaidar.

Talking about the number of JAD Makassar, Al Chaidar said after 20 people were arrested and two of them were shot to death, their number is now only around seven. With this suicide they clearly stated that they were ready to fight back.
