REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia awaits the Business Competition Supervisory Commission's (KPPU's) decision on an alleged airfare cartel. Garuda has clarified charges of ticket fixing and its relations with the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (Inaca).

"We have told everything (to the KPPU), and we are now waiting for (a decision) from the Commission," Garuda Indonesia President Director Ari Askhara stated after attending a series of safety simulations at the Garuda Indonesia Training Center here on Wednesday.

KPPU had twice called Garuda over the alleged cartel. Garuda met the first summons when it took over the operation of Sriwijaya Air Group and the second summons when it clarified the alleged airfare cartel, he noted.

With regard to relations with Inaca, he noted that Garuda had held extensive discussions with the association on technical issues rather than the airfare.

"We seldom meet with INACA to fix prices. We only speak to Inaca about safety and how to file airline companies' complaints with the regulator," he noted.

Earlier, the KPPU had summoned Garuda, Inaca, and the Transportation Ministry to clarify about the alleged airfare cartel that led to an airfare hike. The commission is conducting in-depth investigation into the alleged airfare cartel from the standpoints of cost structure and other components.
