REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy chairman of Legal and Human Rights Council Muhammadiyah, Maneger Nasution recorded, nine months have passed since unidentified assailants splashed strong acid to Novel Baswedan. Nevertheless, the police have not been able to uncover the case.

"We know the perpetrators still can't be found by the police yet," said Manegeron Thursday (11/1).

He also criticized National Police for not acting quickly to solve the case. Maneger assessed, on many cases, even for extraordinary crime cases, the police able to find the perpetrators quickly and processed them by law.

"People even have asked president to form Joint Fact Finding Team (TGPF) to solve Novel's attack case. However, there were no response yet," he remarked.

Maneger urged National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) to form TGPF or such kind of team. He also asked president to support the establishment of the team.

"The form of TGPF is necessary, besides for legal certainty, TGPF also to fulfill the family's rights to know about the perpetrator and follow-up of the case, and to guarantee the future of eradicating corruption, human rights and democracy," he said.

Novel was attacked by two unidentified persons who splashed acid onto his face and eyes. The attack happened early morning on April 11, 2017 after he performed a dawn prayers in a mosque near his house in North Jakarta.

In an interview Novel claimed if he had received information that a police general or a high-level police official was involved in the attack on him. As one of the KPK's top investigator, he has led investigations into several high-profile cases, including the ongoing e-ID embezzlement case that has implicated several lawmakers and high-ranking government officials.

Novel is currently still undergoing his medical treatment in Singapore. His eyes were seriously damaged and he was undergoing surgery for several times.

National Police spokesman, Rikwanto said, there was not enough evidence yet to determine the suspects. However, in December 2017, Jakarta Police has announced sketches of the attackers. Police asked the society to help them in finding the assailants.
