REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called on the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to prioritize prevention of terrorism.

"In dealing with terrorism, prioritize prevention, not to handle it only after it happens," Jokowi informed the press after issuing directives during a leadership meeting of the TNI and Polri, here, Tuesday.

Preventive efforts need to be backed by on-field data and information collected by the intelligence agency, he noted.

Terrorism still poses a threat not only to Indonesia but also to other countries. He mentioned the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as an eminent terror threat.

Jokowi also emphasized that security and stability is crucial to help achieve the targets of economic growth and infrastructure development.

Deputy National Police Chief Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti stated that the TNI-Polri leadership meeting is a strategic momentum to implement nine priority agenda outlined in the National Mid-Term Development Plan 2015-2019.

Haiti noted that during the meeting, an agreement on joint basic education will be inked between the TNI and Polri.

The leadership meeting is themed "A Synergy between TNI and Polri as Mental Revolution Drivers."

The meeting is being attended by 246 high-ranking officers of the TNI and Polri.
