Govt issues regulation on electoral campaign

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government issues Regulation No. 18/2013 on electoral campaign. The regulation rules state officials who run for legislative to presidential election.

One point of the regulation states that minister must step down from his office if he plans to run for presidential election as late as seven days before registration. "Resignation letter cannot be taken back," as cited from Article 29 Section 3 in Governmental Regulation No. 18/2013.

The regulation also rules sanction for officials who violate the regulation of campaign leave. Meanwhile, president and vice president who run for another term of office must ask for leave to Minister of State Secretary as late as seven days before campaign period.

Article 27 Section 3 and 4 rules the usage of state facility for campaign. During campaign, the president and vice president who become the candidate can still be guarded by National Police, which is funded by state budget.
