Fifteen Indonesian state-owned companies to enter Myanmar

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - About 15 Indonesian state-owned companies plan to expand their wings to Myanmar soon, Minister of State-owned Enterprises Dahlan Iskan, stated. He mentioned that several companies were PT Timah, PT PLN, GMF Aero Asia, PT Telkom, PT Bukit Asam, Perum Bulog, Semen Indonesia and Pupuk Indonesia.

"Myanmar trend is getting better and now the country is our potential market," he said on Tuesday. He believes that Myanmar's economic will offer good opportunity and provide stability in the near future.

However, only four state-owned companies that will enter Myanmar market this year. They are PT Timah, PT Bukit Asam, Semen Indonesia and GMF. PT Timah will soon occupy tin mining areas in Myanmar, while PT Bukit Asam will build 2x20 MW steam power plant near new coal mining in Myanmar with total investment worth 80 million USD.

Semen Indonesia will also build a manufacture in the country after recently built a manufacture in Vietnam. Meanwhile, GMF, a subsidiary of PT Garuda Indonesia, will offer the service of air plane maintenance to Myanmar Airlines.

Iskan said other state-owed companies, such as state electricity PLN, also proposed to work in Myanmar. PLN proposes to become a partner for Myanmar electricity to decrease losses in the country.

Executive Director of PLN, Nur Pamudji, confirmed by saying that the proposal was offered recently. "Our Coordinating Minister of Economy (Hatta Rajasa) will visit Myanmar and we will wait the next move after their talks," he said.
