Survey: Most Indonesians spend much time on watching TV

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A survey conducted by global market research firm, Nielsen Company Indonesia, shows that most Indonesians spend much time on watching TV. They spend at least 197 hours a year to watch TV.

Managing Director of Nielsen Company Indonesia, Irawati Pratignyo, said about 24 percent of their time were spend to watch TV series. "TV series are aired at the right time when Indonesians sit in front of their TV," she said on Wednesday.

The current figure is decreasing, but this activity has higher penetration than other activities such as reading newspaper or listening to radio. The ratio of TV penetration reaches 94 percent, decreasing one percent compared to 2011. Reading newspaper is stagnant in 13 percent, while listening to radio is declining from 41 percent to 25 percent.

After TV series, talent program is also popular. People spend at least 168 hours a year to watch talent program. The rating of this program is 5.8 percent.

Football program still becomes the most popular program in TV with rating reaches 10.9 percent in 2012 for AFF Suzuki Cup between Malaysia and Indonesia. The program is watched by 5.8 viewers. "It means that Indonesians have good nationalism," she said.
