REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- The Government of the West Java's city of Bandung has planned to carry out fund-raising efforts to help overcome the humanitarian crisis, which has affected the Rohingya ethnic community in Myanmar.

"I have asked all the people in Bandung, through village heads and sub-district heads, to collect the financial assistance for the Rohingya refugees," Bandung mayor, Ridwan Kamil, stated here on Monday.

Kamil, better known as Emil, is deeply concerned about the crisis in Myanmar. He called for an immediate end to the violence against the Rohingyas.

As the capital city that hosted the Asia-Africa conference in the past, Emil noted that Bandung was obliged to seek solution as well as assistance against the problems that occur in Asia and Africa. Thus, one of the efforts that he could do was fundraising.

"We believe that killing one human being is equal to killing all of humanity. Hatred will only bring more hatred. Then violence will only invite other counter-violence," Emil warned.

The fund-raising activities will be conducted within seven days.

After collecting the funds, it will be provided to the ACT team that is always ready to channel aid to the conflict area.

In addition, he also urged the Myanmar government to take an active role in resolving the issue. Thus, all communities in Myanmar, both Rohingya and others, can live without fear.

Meanwhile, on Monday (Sept 3), Indonesian president Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appealed to the Myanmar government to stop violence against its people.

Jokowi deplored violent incidents that have happened in Myanmar since two weeks ago.

"All people in Indonesia and I deplored the violent incidents that have happened in Myanmar¿s Rakhine state. A concrete action is needed instead of mere condemnation," he remarked.
