REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia can urge countries across the world to form a joint commitment to solve problems in Palestine, especially that occurring in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a member of the Indonesia House of Representatives (DPR) Sukamta stated.

"Indonesia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or the president himself needs to intervene to mobilize efforts to establish a joint commitment among countries to solve the problem," Sukamta noted here on Monday.

He added that Israel's actions cannot be dealt with sporadically and reactively, yet people should be optimistic that Israel would be defeated through comprehensive, continuous, and compact struggles.

Sukamta lauded Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi for working hard to mobilize global support to help solve the Palestinian conflict, especially related to Al-Aqsa. However, the efforts should be more strategic.

"For instance, Indonesia needs to take up a leadership role to mobilize all forces," he emphasized, adding that all rhetoric should be realized in order to take systematic and structured actions to solve the issue of Al-Aqsa and Palestine, as a whole.

According to Sukamta, the Indonesian government should be able to recommend more concrete actions to the international community through the UN forum and Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

"The act of boycotting Israel, as was once suggested by President Joko Widodo, could also be considered," he noted.

Sukamta said Arab countries having diplomatic relations with Israel should also boycott Israeli products for the sake of Palestinian independence.

According to Sukamta, a global boycott will have a deterrent effect on Israel and compel it to abide by international decisions with regard to the conflicts.
